Wokingham Borough Council blue rubbish bags are changing hands for upwards of £30 per roll on a popular internet auction site.
A current ‘buy it now’ listing on eBay is for what is described as a roll of unscented bags that are suitable for household waste. It said the pack contains 81-120 bags.
Wokingham Borough Council confirmed that households are currently issued with a roll of 20 bags, enough to tide them over until the new wheelie bins are in place. After that point, residents will be responsible for the bags they use in the wheeled bins.
From August 12, the bags will no longer be needed when most households in the borough will move to using wheeled bins for its rubbish collections.
Wokingham Borough Council currently charges £11.30 for a roll of 10 blue bags, which it says covers the cost of the bag as well as the cost of disposing of the rubbish.
Although there is currently no limit as to the amount of household rubbish each home can put out for collection each week, only the amount which fits inside the new wheeled bins every two weeks will be allowed from August.
