A TENSE American courtroom drama is Wokingham Theatre’s next play.
Written by New York playwright and screenwriter Aaron Sorkin, A Few Good Men was first performed on Broadway, in 1989.
The drama follows military lawyers at a court-martial who uncover a high-level conspiracy while defending two United States marines.
“Son, we live in a world that has walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with guns,” says one witness.
But it rapidly becomes clear that there is a moral price to pay for a powerful military machine.
When one marine is brutally killed, it is given to Leutenant Daniel Kaffee, an inexperienced navy lawyer, to defend two others accused of the man’s murder.
An intense study of moral and ethical complexity, the story was inspired by a real incident that took place in Guantanamo Bay.
Then, a Lance Corporal and nine others tied up a fellow marine and punished him for betraying them to the Naval Criminal Investigative Service.
A Few Good Men was adapted for the screen in 1992, and starred Jack Nicholson, Tom Cruise, and Demi Moore.

“Audiences can expect a gripping courtroom drama,” said director Lloyd White.
“Aaron Sorkin is one of the greatest modern day playwrights and screenwriters, in my opinion.
“His particular brand of dialogue is fast, slick, and funny, and has a certain rhythm to it that just keeps the audience engaged and involved the whole time.
“It’s a wonderful piece of writing, and it’s just as powerful now as it was in the 80s.
“We haven’t updated it, and those who have seen the film will find the storyline and the dialogue very familar.
“People will be gripped right to the end.”
A Few Good Men will be performed at Wokingham Theatre, from Thursday, October 19 through to Saturday, October 28, with the exception of Sunday.
Doors open at 7.45pm, with tickets available for £16.
