Featured in the paper every Thursday, Bracknell Bees head coach Doug Sheppard gives latest views on the club’s season on and off the ice in an exclusive column.
Hockey fans were treated to two home games last weekend. After the highs and lows of the previous week, the players wanted to show that lessons had been learned.
They had to put together two consistent performances against a top of the table team on Saturday and then Raiders on Sunday, making their first League visit to the Hive.
I couldn’t fault the effort the players made. The win against Telford was warmly applauded by the fans. When teams play three against three in overtime, hockey becomes even more exciting. That result showed how close this new League is.
I had hoped for a four point weekend for the first time this season, but Raiders played a strong third period to take the win by a single goal on Sunday evening.
We’re going in the right direction and will continue to work on the areas that need improvement. That will be tested this Saturday when we entertain Peterborough Phantoms. So far, each team has won on its own ice, so if it’s excitement you want, make your way to the rink for a 6.15 face-off.
Thank you for so generously contributing to our support of our chosen charity. We’re reverting now to our usual jerseys.
See you all this weekend.
