BERKSHIRE has ranked among the top ten places in the UK for financial productivity, new figures show.
A study compiled by financial tech company Plus500 has placed Berkshire sixth in a list of the most financially productive areas of the country.
It examined figures from the Office for National Statistics between 2004 and 2021, calculating the Gross Value Added (GVA) per hour worked and breaking down the findings by region.
Tower Hamlets in London topped the list, with employees in the borough adding £71.90 of gross value per hour worked in an area with more than 19,000 registered businesses.
Camden and the City of London ranked second with £65.90 of GVA per hour, and North Hampshire third with £60.20 of GVA per hour.
Westminster ranked fourth despite having around 52,000 businesses and more than 700,000 jobs, with a GVA of £58.60 per hour.
Hounslow and Richmond Upon Thames took fifth place with an hourly GVA of £57.20.
Berkshire placed sixth, with 97,711 registered businesses and an hourly GVA of £53.50.
Business survival rates are also slightly higher in the county than the national average, with more than 42% of firms founded in Berkshire surviving for at least five years, compared to the average of 39.5%.
The information and communication sector, a rapidly-growing industry, contributes around a quarter of the county’s GVA, and there are 10 FTSE 100 companies based here.
Croyden and West Surrey trailed in seventh and eighth, with hourly GVAs of £52.20 and £52.10 respectively.
Swindon and Lambeth completed the top ten with hourly GVAs of £50.90 and £47.80 respectively.
