A trip to Ewood Park on Wednesday night is on the horizon for Reading as they hope to pick up some points to ease their relegation fears.

The Royals have lost three games on the bounce in the Championship which leaves them in 16th place prior to their midweek trip to Lancashire.

Reading have the second worst away record in the division and have won just three out of their 18 away matches while Blackburn boast the second best home record with 12 wins in 17.

Back to back home defeats and an imminent six point deduction from the EFL is likely to see Reading get dragged into the relegation scrap.

Meanwhile, Rovers are chasing a play-off place having enjoyed a strong run of form despite losing their last match.

Jon Dahl Tomasson’s team had been on a run of four successive Championship wins, which included an impressive victory over second place Sheffield United before they lost out 3-2 away at Stoke City last Friday.

Blackburn currently sit in fifth position in the table in a tightly contested top half of the standings having picked up 58 points from 36 games.

Ben Brereton Diaz has been Blackburn’s most prolific scorer for the second season running.

The Chilean international netted 22 goals last campaign and so far has managed 11 goals in 33 games which has seen him linked with a move away from the Championship club with his contract due to expire in the summer.

Reading enjoyed a spectacular win in the reverse fixture between the teams in August.

Goals from Tom McIntyre, Junior Hoilett and Lucas Joao saw the Royals run out as comfortable 3-0 victors.

Reading did lose out on their last visit to Ewood Park in October 2021 with goals from Sam Gallagher and Tyrhys Dolan giving the hosts three points.

Royals boss Ince confirmed that Tom McIntyre, Scott Dann and Andy Yiadom are all injury concerns for the upcoming game.

Both Dann and Yiadom had to be substituted at half-time during Reading’s weekend loss to Millwall. Dann departed with a hamstring injury, while Yiadom was seen leaving the stadium in a protective boot which is likely to rule both players out until after the international break.

The Reading manager did confirm that midfielder Ovie Ejaria has rejoined first-team training, while former club captain Liam Moore got 45 minutes under his belt last weekend.

Yakou Meite, Baba Rahman, Mamadou Loum, Junior Hoilett and Sam Hutchinson are all term injury absentees and will miss the trip to Blackburn.

Ince said: “Ejaria has been out a while but he’s done some running on the grass so hopefully he can be in contention for Wednesday.

“But what you have to understand crystal clearly is that these players have been out for a long time.

“As much as I want to throw them in, I’ve got to look after their well-being and welfare. He last played against Watford so whether we throw these players in after being out for so long. Sometimes if you’ve got niggles you’ve just got to go out and play because there are only 10 games to go.

“Scott Dann is out with a hamstring, Andy Yiadom has done his ankle and Tom McIntyre has done his ankle, so we’re down to the bare bones.”
