BOHUNT WOKINGHAM’S Under-14s girls football team are British champions.
The youngsters competed as part of the English Schools’ FA Rod Houston Cup at Lilleshall in Shropshire over the weekend, qualifying as English champions in June.
They began their challenge for the UK crown by facing Cambridgeshire’s St Ivo School in the first game, thrashing them 6-0 with Freya Harris scoring a hat-trick while Mia Thomson and Molly McKeever were also on target.
A 1-0 win over Welsh outfit Add Gorff YGBM followed before clinching the trophy by toppling previously unbeaten Irish champions Sacred Heart Secondary School of Westport 2-1 to make it three wins from three with McKeever and Thomson again scoring.
“This is an absolutely amazing outcome for the girls squad and a result of the effort, team work and immense dedication of each player and their coach Mr Campbell,” said Bohunt headteacher Ben Godber.
“Our Bohunt ethos is to develop game-changers and this achievement truly embodies the Bohunt spirit.
“Their track record has been completely outstanding, and I would also like to thank the squad’s parents for their continued support and commitment.
“I look forward to seeing what the team can achieve next – bring on Europe!”
