A BOROUGH drama club is polishing up its acts for a performance that will mark six decades of amateur theatre.
Nearly two thirds of Twyford Drama’s more than 70 members are involved in a special production to celebrate the group’s 60th anniversary.
Their show, Diamond Gems, is a cabaret-style mix of music, drama and dance.
Featuring short plays written by Twyford Drama’s playwriting group, it will also include a range of musical numbers, many of which will be accompanied by Twyford Drama’s own musical group.
Producer Jocelyn Robinson said: “The Rough Diamonds musical group of guitars, piano, drums and tambourines are progressing well, and have already recorded the backing tracks for the singers to use in practice.
“And the acts are rehearsing hard – with ‘books down’ (everything from memory) deadlines looming.”
Actor and director Peter King has been appointed master of ceremonies, while stage manager Rakhi Drennan is working her magic on sets to transform the stage to suit the varied performances.
The audience, seated in cabaret-style round tables, will be able to enjoy soft drinks, nibbles, and will receive a souvenir programme to commemorate the event.
They will also be able to enjoy reminiscing about the group’s long history captured in old photographs and memorabilia.
Diamond Gems can be seen at Loddon Hall, Twyford, on Friday and Saturday, October 10 and 11.
Evening performances start at 8pm, with a Saturday matinee at 2pm.
Tickets, now on sale, must be bought in advance.
They cost £15 (refreshments and programme included), with other drinks available at the hall bar.
