A VILLAGE primary school is appealing to the borough for help to buy laptops and an IT trolley to support children’s learning.
Finchampstead C of E Primary School needs 20 laptops to allow pupils to access all aspects of the curriculum, including IT skills vital for children in today’s technology-driven era.
Alison Wilde, chair of Friends of Finchampstead School Association (FOFSA), explained why the school has launched its fundraising campaign.
“We’re a tiny school, with just 120 pupils,” she said.
“We have only four classes: reception; years 1 and 2; years 3 and 4; and years 5 and 6.
“It’s a lovely, nurturing community.
“All the children know each other, and enjoy working alongside another year group.”
“But while there are advantages to being small, with Government funding allocated per pupil, money for special purchases like new laptops can be very difficult to find.
“We need to raise £10,000 to buy enough laptops for a whole class to be able to learn at the same time.”
Following an unsuccessful funding application FOFSA has set up a GoFund Me page in the hope that they can appeal to the wider community for donations.
“We have a steep fundraising target, but with community support we feel it is totally possible, and within our reach,” said Alison.
FOFSA plans to continue running fundraisers like its cakes sales and Christmas Fair, but is hoping that residents and local businesses will want to help the school provide the IT learning opportunities pupils need.
“Any donation will help make an impact, and will help us to buy class laptops,” said Alison.
“Many thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause, it will make the world of difference to the school and the children’s lessons.”
FOFSA ‘s campaign to raise £10,000 is already attracting support.
