DAYS after the leader of Wokingham Borough Council said that enough was enough housing numbers, the Government has announced funding to enable 15,000 homes in a new town planned for Grazeley.
The £750,000 awarded is to specifically fast-track specialist survey and planning works necessary for the new town’s development.
Grazeley is famously the village where Sir John Redwood planted an oak tree as symbolic gesture that the land would never be built on.
Minister of State for Housing Kit Malthouse MP said: “The new Grazeley Garden Town could not only provide homes for local families, but would be a vibrant place where everyone, including the wider Wokingham area, can benefit from new infrastructure – leaving a legacy for future generations to be proud of.
“I congratulate Wokingham Council, West Berkshire District Council and Reading Borough Council for putting forward their ambitious proposal, which could deliver up to 15,000 high-quality homes, and am pleased to support them as they work to make these plans a reality.”
