BRITISH Garden Centres has announced the takeover of Dobbies Reading
The business in Hyde End Road, Shinfield, is set to be taken over by the largest family-run garden centre group in the UK, and is now due to change its name.
The Shinfield store will become the Shinfield Garden Centre, and will join the British Garden Centres family following the Dobbies Restructuring Plan.
Plans would see it reopen in February.
Executives have said the priority is to work closely with the existing teams to restock and reopen the centre as soon as possible.
British Garden Centres will be retaining the existing centre team and will work with them to “ensure the continued success of the community it serves”.
It will also be looking to recruit for extra roles.
British Garden Centres runs 67 centres around the country and is owned and led by The Stubbs family.
They also own and operate Woodthorpe Leisure Park in Lincolnshire.
It launched in 1987 with the opening of Woodthorpe Garden Centre by brothers Charles and Robert Stubbs and since 2018 has acquired 50 garden centres, growing to a team of 2,700 employees across the garden centres, growing nurseries, and distribution centres.
Charles Stubbs, Founder and Director of British Garden Centres said: “We’re excited to welcome the Shinfield store to the British Garden Centres family.
“This is an important step for us as we continue to grow, and we’re thrilled to become a part of the Reading community and beyond.
“We look forward to welcoming back old customers and serving our new customers to become a valuable resource for local gardeners.”
