Last weekend’s Are You Listening? festival was brilliant. We had a whale of a time exploring the many venues and catching bands while enjoying a jar or two.
We wanted to highlight some of them, so there are four new entries to this week’s playlist. Tune in and have fun.
Each week, there are 10 great acts in our playlist, all with a connection to Reading or Wokingham. Tune in for free on Spotify at: bit.ly/rawsoundstoday.
Don’t forget, we’ve got a Facebook group too with some lively banter. Search the social networking site for RaW Sounds Today and join in the fun.
The Mezz – Town Boy
Hopefully, you read the great review of Are You Listening? Festival (AYL) in this paper last week by Jake Clothier.
We are still buzzing from the day so we thought we’d lead this week with a track from one of the many highlights of a brilliant day. It’s Oxford-based, The Mezz, who, at Sub89 performed a vibrant exciting set that certainly pleased the large crowd in the venue.
We’ve featured them in our playlist before and last saw them live a couple of years ago.
They were good then but are now on another level with every member of the band contributing to their impressive sound fronted by the charismatic vocalist and guitarist, Benji Comley, who can certainly grab an audience – https://bit.ly/themezzlinks
Secret Rivals – Omen
It’s another band from Oxford and another from AYL Festival.
They had the difficult task of playing early afternoon outside at the festival Hub in the Reading Market Place but that didn’t faze them.
They pulled a big crowd who enjoyed their melodic indie pop sound.
Omen is a new single from their forthcoming new album, Amor Fati and, judging by this single, that should be a good one – https://www.facebook.com/secretrivals
West Street – Here I Go
From a great event that just happened to one that is happening in Augus.
It’s Wokingham Festival and this new young band from Maidenhead will be there playing a mix of covers and their own original songs such as this one.
It’s their debut single, recorded at Generation Studio.
It has an infectious chorus that will have you singing along. We’ll look forward to that at the festival – https://www.instagram.com/weststreetband.official/
Nicole Allan – Time
It’s another new single from an artist who will be appearing at Wokingham Festival.
Nicole is a singer songwriter with a country feel and she has a powerful soulful voice that you can hear to full effect on this song. It’s pure quality from an artist that has performed locally as well as throughout the UK, Europe and the US and will no doubt have the crowd entranced at Wokingham https://www.facebook.com/nicoleallan95
Big Horizon – In The Beginning
It’s an excellent new band created by Iain Hornal, who grew up in Reading, and his fellow musicians who play with some of the biggest artists in the world including Take That, ELO, and 10cc – https://www.facebook.com/bighorizonmusic
