A couple escaped with what appeared to be minor injuries after a vehicle drove into the entrance of a Lower Earley church on Monday afternoon.
The accident to the building in Chalfont Place caused serious structural damage.
Jon Salmon, minister of Trinity Church, told Wokingham Today: “Thankfully, the couple in the car were able to walk away but they were understandably shaken.
“They were treated in the neighbouring Chalfont Group Practice before being taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital for more tests.
“The police, fire brigade and local authority building control surveyor were all on the scene quickly and worked very effectively to make the site safe.
He added that local businesses and ASDA, as well as our fellow local churches, were all very supportive and caring.
He said: “The entrance should be made structurally safe today (Tuesday) but it will take some time to rebuild the entrance.
“This will inevitably impact access to the building.
“We are closing the building today and will await agreement from a structural engineer about tomorrow and future days and events.”
