NO SOONER had they recovered from the excitement of hosting BBC Radio 4’s Gardener’s Question Time programme, members of a borough gardening group found themselves busily preparing for their Spring Show.
It’s an important year for Twyford and Ruscombe Horticultural Association (TRHA), and their 70th anniversary has started well.
With the GQT success under their belts, they went on to present a colourful display of spring flowers at their Loddon Hall horticultural show.

“Weather conditions meant that a lot of spring flowers were late this year,” said Diane Thirtle from the group.
“But many daffodil varieties were in full bloom and the number of vases of flowering shrubs made a lovely display.
“Our horticultural future is ensured judging by the number of pots of daffodils grown by the school children from bulbs donated by TRHA.”

There are never many vegetables at this time of year but local allotment holders managed to display a small selection, and vibrant displays of yellow spring flowers were set off by the new black niches in the floral art class.
Bakers had been busy cooking cakes and pastries, and there were a number of homemade pickles on display.
“The People’s Vote went to an arrangement of flowers in a teapot, while the handicrafts, art and photography classes confirmed the talent of TRHA supporters,” added Diane.
“And the children’s exhibits were a delight as usual.”

TRHA members can enjoy a programme of annual events, the association’s trading store, and the group’s horticultural shows, as well as receiving a monthly newsletter.
Membership costs £8 per household, and £7 for seniors.

The group’s next event is a charity quiz night, with tables of eight, to be held in Charvil Village Hall on Friday, April 25.
Tickets cost £7 and all proceeds will go to local gardening charities.
