HOLLY, daughter of an Age Concern Twyford & District Social Club member, has been running to help the organisation update its crumbling cooking area.
The Age Concern club has been on a mission to replace its outdated kitchen, which is long overdue for an upgrade, so just before Christmas Holly challenged herself to run 10k every week for 10 weeks to raise money for the project.
On her final sprint, dressed as a Christmas tree, she was accompanied by Ethan and Oscar, sons of the Age Concern Twyford and District Social Club’s centre manager, Alan Boyle.
“Holly has been absolutely amazing,” said Alan.
“She has already raised £5,500, which means we are well on the way towards replacing our kitchen.
“On her final run my two sons and I joined her for a fun-filled, festive celebration.
“It was a joyous occasion, and we had an absolute blast.”
Installed in 1996, the group’s facilities have been in use for three decades and are now needing to be replaced.
“We are deeply grateful for all the amazing support we’ve already received, but the journey doesn’t end here,” said Alan.
“We’re asking people to keep the momentum going and make this much-needed kitchen renovation a reality.
“Should we raise more than needed for the kitchen, any additional funds will go towards replacing the worn-out 1990s carpet and easy chairs, further improving the space for everyone who uses it.
“Together, we can achieve great things and continue to provide a welcoming, comfortable space for all our local and surrounding residents.”
Holly said: “My mum has dementia and came to live with us last year..
“Since then she has started attending the Age Concern Social Club in Twyford, which has been an absolute life line for both her and me.
“It’s a safe, dementia friendly space where she can spend the day being cared for, socialising, and even dancing.
“It also means I can work knowing that mum is safe, happy, and well looked after, easing a lot of the burden of being her main carer.
“The centre is in desperate need of a new kitchen, so I was keen to take on the challenge to help raise money for this cause, which is so close to my heart.
“And having legends Ethan and Oscar join me for my special run made the event even more memorable.”
