Members of a self advocacy group for people with learning disabilities will focus on music and safety this month.
CLASP Choir members will take to the stage, to sing for attendees as they arrive the the town’s Wokingham Community Awards.
They will also sing at Wokingham library, and at a November fundraising sing-out for Children in Need, at Waitrose Wokingham.
And at this year’s Wokingham Winter Carnival, CLASP will be selling refreshments at the Bradbury Centre.
CLASP Wokingham’s Take Notice November sessions with the Learning Disability Partnership Board (LDPB) will boost safety awareness at home, in the community, and online.
Take Notice sessions are for members only, but three LDPB sessions this month are open to all adults with learning disabilities in the local area.
On Friday, November 7, an LDPB roadshow will explain Wokingham Borough Council’s Learning Disability Strategy.
On Friday, November 14, another LDPB session will explore online safety, followed by a further LDPB session on Friday, November 21, on keeping safe at home and out in the community.
On the last Friday, November 28, CLASP members can attend part two of a PIP workshop.
Regular sessions continue, including Movie Mates, Coffee Shop, Dancing to Music, Book Corner, Happy & Healthy Club Sports & Fitness sessions, Craft Club, Evening Drop-In at Sedero Lounge, Active Session, Gardening Club (now fortnightly), Take Notice, Puzzle Club and Choir.
CLASP receives some funding from Wokingham Borough Council, but in order to provide members with a full range of support and opportunities the group organises its own fundraising too.
Its Advent Raffle fundraiser offers lots of prizes to win, gifted by local businesses and organisations.
Tickets cost £5, and are now available to buy, with winners drawn every day from December 1 to December 12.
