Two games last weekend and three more points to add to our league total. That’s satisfying, but it was the character shown by the players which pleased me most.
Since the season began, we’ve had several wins by the odd goal. That tells me that this team will compete till the final buzzer. That’s what happened this weekend away to Milton Keynes on Saturday and at home against Swindon on Sunday.

Ryan Watt returned to the ice and we were able to use him for a limited number of shifts. It was clear what qualities he can bring to the team and we look forward to him regaining full fitness. We’re also looking forward to the continuing progress of Zack Milton, who contributed his first goal for the team.
Milton Keynes held the lead after the first period even though we had outshot them, but we battled through to a narrow win.
Swindon came to the Hive on Sunday on a run of three wins, three shutouts and 18 goals. I know how much everyone was looking forward to this game. Even though neither team played their best hockey, this game excited the fans until the final hooter. It was fast and intense.
By the end of 60 minutes the game was drawn. Both teams had had 30 shots on goal. There had been moments when the game could have swung either way. Josh Smith came up with the clutch goal which took us into overtime.
Even though we lost in overtime, the team was cheered off the ice by fans who had thoroughly enjoyed the end to end battle. The Hive was buzzing.
There are two breaks in a hockey game. We like to keep the entertainment levels high.
During the second interval, Emily Philips and Jayin Panesar showed us the ice dance routine they’re taking to Budapest this week when they represent Great Britain. We wish them every success.
This Saturday the School Zone is open again as we host Peterborough in what will be another exciting match. After the game, there’ll be open skating when you have the chance to take to the ice with the players.
