Wokingham & Emmbrook will be hoping the new year will bring a change of fortunes – starting with Saturday’s crucial match against fellow strugglers Hilltop.
The Sumas are currently languishing in 16th place in the Cherry Red Records Combined Counties Premier Division North, with just four wins from 15 matches this season.
Encouragingly, the next two opponents are currently below them in the table.
Saturday’s visitors to Lowther Road, Hilltop, are two places and a single point behind, but crucially have played three fewer matches. The Hillingdon-based side was formed in 2005 for the Somali community in the area.
Wembley, who are one place off the foot of the table, then follow on January 13.
The Sumas’ last home win came on October 14, one of just two victories at Lowther Road this season.
Manager Matt Cronan is likely to have a full-strength squad to choose from. Kick-off at Lowther Road, weather permitting, is at 3pm.
Wokingham & Emmbrook Ladies are also at home this weekend.
They will face Wycombe Saints Ladies on Sunday afternoon (2pm) in the Thames Valley Counties Women’s Football League Development Division.
The Ladies are riding high in third place with seven wins from their 13 games – a remarkable achievement in the first season since reforming.
