A huge project for more than 340 homes has been given the go-ahead south of Wokingham.
Full planning permission has been secured for a mix of private and affordable homes south of the railway line.
A total of 343 homes will be built as part of the south Wokingham Strategic Development Location (SDL), which will see around 1,400 homes constructed alongside new roads, green spaces, and community facilities.
Permission has been granted for ‘parcel R11’ of the SDL, on land situated off Waterloo Road, just south of the Eastern Gateway roundabout that is linked with William Heelas Way.
The detailed plans have been approved by Wokingham Borough Council’s planning department.
Of the 343 homes, 65% will be for private sale, with the remainder designated as affordable, supporting a long-term vision for balanced and sustainable communities.
The project, dubbed ‘Holme Meadows’ will be delivered in a joint venture between housebuilding consortium the Vistry Group and Kier Property.
Construction is scheduled to begin this autumn with first completions expected in the summer next year.
Trevor Wicks, managing director at Vistry Thames Valley, said: “After the recent land acquisition for the first phase of our development at Holme Meadows, we are excited to have secured planning permission so
swiftly for the 343 new homes, enabling us to begin construction this autumn.
This is a major milestone in our joint venture with Kier Property which will bring forward high-quality, mixed-tenure homes that reflect our commitment to sustainable placemaking and meeting local housing needs, as well as supporting the council’s vision for South Wokingham.”
Leigh Thomas, group managing director at Kier Property, added: “We are pleased to have achieved full planning consent for the first phase at Holme Meadows, marking an important step forward for our joint venture with Vistry.
“This development will play a key role in delivering much-needed new homes in south Wokingham, creating a vibrant and sustainable community supported by high-quality infrastructure and green spaces.
“Together with Vistry, we are committed to bringing forward a scheme that not only meets local housing demand but also contributes positively to the long-term growth and prosperity of the area.”
The developers claimed the new homes will be designed to meet local demand, combining quality, sustainability, and a strong sense of place across both the private and affordable tenures.
