Peter King, director of this year’s Twyford Drama pantomime, says the work of an amateur drama group never stops
“No sooner had we finished our 60th anniversary show, Diamond Gems,” he explained, “than we were auditioning for our annual pantomime, Aladdin.”
“There are as many different scripts for this panto as there are leaves on the trees,” he added.
This year’s script has been written by Ben Crocker, writer of Twyford Drama’s 2024 pantomime, Treasure Island.
“You never know how many will turn up for auditions,” Peter added, “so I was delighted to see a good number coming along, including a number of potential new members.”
The group’s backstage staff are now busy preparing for the production.
“Our team of builders, led by stage manager Bill Evans, will be creating the mystical cave where Aladdin finds the magic lamp,” Peter said, “and the genie, along with sound and lighting, will be designed by Ollie Heath and Paul Robinson to match the on-stage action .
“Music is an important part of any panto, of course, and I spent a long time trying to select the right songs for the show.
“I like to blend modern with older music in an attempt to appeal to all ages.
“This year we’re including a blend of Little Mix and George Formby, with songs and dances being learnt by the company through the coming weeks.”
