AN Advent Calendar gifting scheme has been launched in Bracknell, aimed at spreading some festive cheer.
The Lexicon has teamed up with the Bracknell Foodbank, run by Kerith Church, for the scheme, which runs until Sunday, November 26.
Shoppers are invited to donate the popular items that countdown the days to Christmas Eve when they visit Princess Square. They will then be distributed in time for the first door to be opened on Friday, December 1.
Rob Morris, general manager at The Lexicon, said: “We’re hoping that shoppers will purchase an additional advent calendar when buying for their own families and pop it into our Giving Box.
“We know from previous campaigns run in conjunction with Bracknell Foodbank, a small gesture, really can go a long way to bring smiles to children’s faces.”
And Claire Mather, Bracknell Foodbank Manager, said she was grateful with the team-up.
“Sadly, demand at foodbank this year has been higher than ever before, and we expect to be see even more families turn to us in the winter months,” she said.
“Seemingly small things like being able to give your child an Advent calendar can make a huge difference when you’re going through a difficult time financially. The local community have been incredibly generous in the past and we hope, if you’re in a position to help, that you will support this campaign.”
The Mayor of the borough of Bracknell Forest, Cllr Naheed Ejaz, said: “I was honoured to be one of the first to donate.
“I know many families are under financial pressure, which can make Christmas a stressful time. With all the calendars collected going to Bracknell foodbank, we can help spread some festive joy.”
