TWO days of fun are being promised by organisers of this year’s Swallowfield Show, which takes place over the August bank holiday weekend.
And the line-up is of epic proportions, offering something for everyone. Attractions include a full programme of arena displays, craft stalls, live music, food and beer tents, a fairground, local groups with stalls, a dog show, horticultural contests, pony rides, equestrian events, classic cars … and even some ferret racing.
You’d be hard pressed to say a ticket was bad value for money.
The event will take place in Swallowfield Park for the second time.
Organisers said that the move last year was a huge success and a record number of visitors came along to enjoy the event.
Now, the team of volunteers are in the final touches phase for the show, which raises thousands of pounds for local good causes – and this has caught national attention. The show has been given the Queens Award for Voluntary Service.
The arena acts include Bob Hoggs Sheepdog Display with its amusing lamb national, while Steve Colley’s bike display will have audiences going ‘WOW!’. Always popular are the falconry displays and vehicle displays, while there will be a visit from the highly popular Reading Scottish Pipe Band.
Younger visitors will be delighted by plenty of small animals, and our not so young visitors will enjoy Pelhams Fairground who will again be offering a variety of traditional rides. Uncle Charley will be around to present his popular comedy and Punch and Judy shows, while there is the opportunity to try your hand at car racing.
The heart of the Show has always been the Horticultural Marquee which will house a wide variety of exhibits.
And they are still accepting entries for the show, with categories for a wide range of talents including plants, paintings, sewing, photography. There is also space for entries in the Horse Show and the Dog Show.
The show is open from 10am to 5.30pm on Sunday, August 26 and Bank Holiday Monday, August 27.
Tickets cost £8 or £3 for children aged 4 to 16. A family ticket is £20. It’s cheaper to order online in advance via the website.
