BRACKNELL MP Dr Phillip Lee has pledged to support Theresa May in a vote over her leadership this evening.
Although Dr Lee resigned from the Government in June over its Brexit stance and being a backer of a People’s Vote – a second referendum on Brexit – he wants Conservative MPs to put the country over the party.
He also blasted the vote of no confidence in her leadership today as “distracting and self-indulgent”.
In a statement, he told The Wokingham Paper: “I will support Theresa May’s leadership this evening, as I did in 2016.
“I disagree with her current approach to delivering Brexit but the last thing the country needs is a distracting and self-indulgent Conservative Party leadership contest, which does not change anything.
“The PM must take her Brexit deal to the country and let the people decide.”
Last week, Dr Lee published an open letter in The Wokingham Paper explaining why he wasn’t backing the Prime Minister’s Brexit deal.
