A driver has been fined more than £150 for breaching the 7.5 tonne weight restriction on Sonning bridge.
On November 1, 2024, a member of the public observed and videoed a heavy goods vehicle travelling through the weight restriction.
The video and images were forwarded to a Public Protection Partnership road traffic enforcement officer who conducted a check on government’s website and confirmed that the HGV’s gross weight was 18 tonnes, and therefore exceeded the 7.5 tonne weight limit.
Following consideration of the evidence provided at the magistrates’ court earlier this month, and a guilty plea, the driver was fined £53, ordered to pay £90 contribution towards the prosecution costs and to pay a victim’s surcharge of £21.
The Public Protection Partnership is a shared service delivering environmental health, licensing and trading standards to people and businesses on behalf of Bracknell Forest council, and West Berkshire council.
It also works jointly with Wokingham Borough Council to provide a trading standards, financial investigation, and case management service across the three authority areas.
