AHEAD of a meeting of Wokingham Borough Council’s planning committee, a town council has raised its concerns over a proposal to build nine homes in Lower Earley.
At a meeting of Earley Town Council’s planning committee on June 6, town councillors decided to oppose the plan for land on Crockers, an existing house on Rushey Way.
The application had been raised at a meeting of the borough council’s planning committee in May, but it was deferred until councillors had undertaken a site visit to clarify a number of issues.
It has been submitted as a ‘reserved matters’ application, meaning it is for assessing the principle of development on the site, rather than the final design. Originally, it was proposed to build 10 homes on the site, but this was reduced to nine in March.
Earley Town Council felt the application, number 221797, didn’t demonstrate how nine houses could adequately be accommodated on the site. Instead, it would be a cramped development with not enough access.
The councillors also had concerns over the loss of trees and hedges that would visually impact neighbouring properties and the close proximity of the site to Hillside School.
At the planning committee meeting that will be held at the borough councils offices in Shute End on Wednesday, June 14, Earley town mayor Cllr Caroline Smith and Cllr Pauline Jorgensen, ward councillor for Hillside, will express their concerns in full.
Council officers have recommended the proposals subject to conditions being put in place.
