OFFICIAL portraits have been released for Earley’s new mayors.
Cllr Caroline Smith was voted in as mayor at the annual town council meeting held last month, with Cllr Melanie De Jong as her deputy.
Outgoing town mayor, Cllr Tahir Maher, presented Cllr Smith with the chain of office and she took over as chair of the meeting.
In her acceptance speech, she thanked Cllr Maher for representing the Town Council over the past year and said she was looking forward to meeting the town’s varied communities, groups and organisations.
The role of Town Mayor is a civic one and the position is non-political. During their year, they will attend functions, officiate at events and present prizes, along with being a key figure who represents the Town Council.
