Reading Blue Coat

Founded in 1646, Reading Blue Coat is a school steeped in history, but with an eye very much focused on the future.  With our values of aspiration, compassion, courage, integrity, and service underpinning all that we do, our aim is for excellence in everything, for everyone; for the whole community to thrive because we are engaged in what we do and kind in how we do it.

We are delighted to have extended the long-established co-education of the Sixth Form into Year 7 and look forward to being fully co-educational in all year groups by 2027, with all the diversity of thought and talent it will bring to this already vibrant environment.

We warmly invite you to our whole school Open Morning on Saturday 5 October 2024, 09:30 – 12:30.  Come along and discover all the academic and co-curricular opportunities Reading Blue Coat has to offer your child at our happy and progressive school.

If you are interested in our Sixth Form, join us on Tuesday 15 October 2024 for an evening tailored to parents and students keen to explore the A Level options available at RBC.  The evening includes student-led tours, a welcome talk from the Headmaster – Mr Pete Thomas, an introduction to Sixth Form life from the Director of Sixth Form and an opportunity to discuss academic subjects with Heads of Department.  This event is an ideal follow-up to our Open Morning.

Leighton Park

Senior School of the Year.

Leighton Park offers an exceptional values-led education for 11–18-year-old girls and boys, located next to the University of Reading. We combine the best academic progress in Berkshire with national award-winning personal development and sector-leading pastoral care.

Led by our Quaker values, we challenge our students to imagine a better world. We then support them to develop the character, confidence and determination to be change-makers.

Head, Matthew LS Judd explains: “We don’t try to be like other schools. Our starting point is to nurture each young person to really think about who they are and what they want to achieve.”

We were awarded Senior School of the Year in the national Independent Schools Association Awards 2023-24 and won the Excellence in the ISA Pupil Personal Development Awards 2022.

We are particularly well known for our strengths in STEAM subjects and Music, being the only school in Europe which is a Yamaha flagship education partner. Our academic approach to STEAM is all about creative problem solving, combining the analytical skills from STEM subjects with the creative habits of mind from the Arts.

The recent awarding of the prestigious NACE Challenge Ambassador School status makes it the fourth school in the country and the only independent one to receive this esteemed title.

This achievement, alongside the school’s recognition by the Independent Schools Inspectorate as “Excellent in all areas,” is a testament to Holme Grange’s ongoing commitment to excellence in education.
