The future of a kebab van remains unclear after its licence to trade was revoked after failing a last chance hygiene inspection.
BBQ King is a long-established food truck business in Wokingham. Most recently it has been operating from Winnersh crossroads, and previously it has operated from Reading Road near the Holt School.
A meeting of Wokingham Borough Council’s licensing and appeals sub-committee on July 9 gave the operator of the takeaway vehicle, Kenan Mursaloglu who trades as Winnersh Catering Limited, a final chance to improve.
Notes for that hearing said that within the last six months, multiple complaints had been received from residents, local councillors, environmental health, antisocial behaviour officers, and Thames Valley Police.
The hearing said the business could continue to trade, subject to conditions that included the carrying out of a deep clean, and full compliance with hygiene standards. The business was told it would receive an unannounced further inspection.
During that re-inspection on August 29, the business was still found to be non-compliant in some areas. It was awarded a one-out-of-five rating in terms of food hygiene.
The van was still in place on Wednesday morning, and reports show it has continued to trade earlier this week.
A spokesperson for Wokingham Borough Council told Wokingham Today: “On September 6, we took the decision to revoke the licence for Winnersh Catering Ltd who run the BBQ King kebab van.
“In cases where consent to trade has been revoked but a business continues trading, the Licensing and Enforcement Team in the council will take the necessary action to ensure compliance.”
