AUDIENCES are invited to step into a world of enchantment in Wokingham this Autumn.
The Magic Flute, Mozart’s timeless operatic masterpiece, is being performed by Park Opera at one of the town’s theatres.
Director is Sallie Ward, and music director is Brian Chapman.
Described by the company as a dazzling fairytale fantasy, the production promises to whisk audiences away on a journey filled with mythical creatures, daring trials of fire and water, and the triumph of love and wisdom.
It follows the fortunes of Prince Tamino and his comical companion the bird-catcher Papageno as they set out to rescue Pamina, the daughter of the Queen of the Night.
Pamina is held prisoner in the castle of the Queen’s enemy Sarastro, but Tamino soon discovers that nothing is quite as it first appears.
Park Opera, based at South Hill Park, Bracknell, always sings in English, and has been performing to borough audiences for more than 40 years.
For this production the company has assembled a cast of principals, with a large chorus and orchestra.
Musical highlights, says the group, include popular comic songs, sparkling ensembles and the brilliance of the Queen of the Night’s iconic arias.
The Magic Flute promises to provide a rich, family-friendly experience, as entertaining as it is emotionally stirring.
Whether audience members are seasoned opera lovers or curious newcomers, this is a must-see performance, says Park Opera, that captures the magic of Mozart at his most creative.
Four performances of The Magic Flute will take place at The Whitty Theatre, Wokingham, from Tuesday, October 28 until Saturday, November 1 (with the exception of Thursday).
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday performances are at 7.30pm, while the Saturday show begins at 3pm.
Tickets for Tuesday and Wednesday cost £22, or are £24 for performances on Friday and Saturday.
