A COMMUNITY Garden Event in Wokingham last weekend raised almost £900 for the support of older people in the borough.
Wokingham Baptist Church hosted their outdoor event to support The Link, a local charity that works to alleviate loneliness and isolation in senior borough residents.
Revd Savannah Bell, Pioneer & Youth Minister at Wokingham Baptist Church, said: “There was a real buzz on the church driveway, and it was lovely to see our local friends and neighbours come along to spend time in our church garden.
“It brings me joy to see our wonderful church family engaging with our local community in this way.
“The event was a real success, and we’re delighted that we have been able to raise such a significant amount for a brilliant local charity.
“And so, we may just try and do it all again next year… watch this space.”
Families at the event were able to purchase fresh stock for the garden at a bring and buy plant sale, while children could enjoy free facepainting and sunflower seed sowing.
Home-made cakes and refreshments were provided free of charge, too.
The majority of the funds for The Link came from the proceeds of the plant sale, which raised £897, all of which will go to the charity.
Marilyn, who attended the Community Garden Event said: “It was so relaxing and friendly, and I think everyone really enjoyed it.
“My daughter and daughter in law can’t wait for the next one.”
Wokingham Baptist Church thanks all its church member volunteers who helped prepare the Community Garden Event, and everyone who came along and generously donated.
