THERE’S no getting away from it, it’s a bit nippy out and watching football games in the big outdoors at this time of year can be a chilly affair.
But for one family, a chance to watch Wycombe Wanderers take on Portsmouth on Sunday was perfect, as they watched it from the comfort of their bed … at Adams Park.
The team, managed by Wokingham-based Gareth Ainsworth, is sponsored by bed retailer Dreams and they offered people the chance to enjoy the footballing action from a luxury, super-king-size Dreams Sleepmotion’ Adjustable bed, installed in a custom-built box.
And in case the duvet wasn’t warm enough, they had a Dreams heated luxury mattress topper.
While it wasn’t quite breakfast in bed, Simon McCallion and his family could enjoy drinks and snacks.
And while Simon has been a season ticket holder at Adams Park for many years, this was his youngest child’s first fixture.
The five-year-old, Edith, told him after 15 minutes that it was “a long game”.
Before the match, he said: “The whole family is really excited, because we get to go to watch Wycombe together, and the girls have said that going through the players’ entrance, and a picture on the pitch is awesome as well.
“We have Dreams beds and mattresses at home as well. Watching it from the bed, getting some food and drink, being able to visit the box is all very exciting.”
And Gareth was delighted for the McCallions.
“It’s an incredible experience for Simon and his family, and full credit to Dreams for coming up with the idea and providing this opportunity for them to enjoy a matchday like no other at Adams Park,” he said.
“I’m told Simon is a long-time Wycombe fan and has enjoyed so many fantastic memories here at Adams Park down the years, but this will be a whole new experience that I’m sure he won’t forget.”
Dreams said this was a good example of their partnership with the club, which extends to offering everyone who attended today’s match – which Wycombe won 2-0 – a chance to try out its Sleepmatch technology and receive a 10% gift voucher.
Meric Pekcan Butcher, marketing campaigns and partnerships manager at Dreams, said: “We are so excited to be working with our partner Wycombe Wanderers to bring this this one-of-a-kind opportunity to fans.
“At the touch of a button, they can adjust their bed to sit up to get a better view of the game live in action – an experience like no other.”
