THE first customer of a new delicatessen received more than she bargained for after being given a special gift.
Becky’s Deli has opened in the farm shop at Hare Hatch Sheeplands, next to butcher Mark Lowe.
On Saturday – Becky Yapp’s first day of trading – Zoe Chopra and her 11-year-old daughter Seren ended up at the head of the queue.
To mark the occasion Zoe was presented with a free gift of freshly produced pork pies.
“It all looks delicious,” she said. “We will be back because my husband is a big fan of sausage rolls.”
The deli sells a range of pies, sausage rolls and Scotch eggs, all of which Becky will produce herself. She will also offer cooked meats, olives and a wide variety of cheeses.
Becky said: “I began to learn all about cooking in my grandmother’s kitchen in Shropshire. She did a lot of home baking and that got me into it as well.
“Later I worked in a deli where I gained valuable experience. I have always been a keen baker and now I have fulfilled a dream by opening my own deli counter.”
Becky’s Deli is open from 8.30am to 5.30pm on Tuesday to Sunday inclusive.
