Former Reading FC loanee Lucas Boye has won his first international call-up to represent Argentina.
The former Reading forward will join up with some of the biggest names in world football in the latest international break including Lionel Messi, Angel Di Maria and Lautaro Martinez after starring for Elche this season.
Since leaving the Royals after his one-year spell in 2019/20, the forward has come on leaps and bounds by making an impact in Spain.
Boye made the move to Berkshire on a season-long loan in the 2019/20 campaign but found first-team opportunities in the Championship hard to come by.
He made 19 appearances in the league but wasn’t able to mark it with a goal.
He did, however, score in both cup competitions that season.
He netted against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the EFL Cup and also against Blackpool in the F Cup third-round replay.
Despite showing flashes of his talent, the Argentine forward couldn’t find any consistency and went back to his parent club Torino at the end of the season after a relatively lacklustre loan spell.
However, since making a move from Torino to Spanish club Elche in 2020, Boye has proved to be a top talent in La Liga.
He signed for the newly promoted team on loan for the 2020/21 season.
After scoring seven times during his loan spell, Elche opted to exercise their buy option at the beginning of this season.
He’s enjoyed another impressive campaign in the Spanish top flight and has seven and three assists to his name from 21 games.
Boye put his name on the radar with an excellent display at the Bernabeu against Spanish giants Real Madrid where he scored and got an assist in a 2-2 draw in January.
His inspiring displays in Spain have not only seen him recognised by his national team, but have also seen him linked with transfer moves to both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid in recent months.
