Former Reading FC player Emi Martinez has been recognised once again on the world stage as he won the best goalkeeper award for a second consecutive year.
Having taken home the Yashin Trophy in 2023, Martinez won again at this year’s Ballon d’Or ceremony.
He also finished in 18th place in the 2024 Ballon d’Or listings.
Martinez made a great impact despite only being in Berkshire for a short time.
He joined on loan from Arsenal in January 2019 and put in some exceptional performances to help the Royals avoid relegation from the Championship under Jose Gomes, playing 18 times in the league.
His career has gone from strength to strength since reigniting his career with that loan spell with the Royals.
He helped Arsenal to win the FA Cup in 2020 before he made the move to Aston Villa the following summer where he has now established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in world football.
Hiks crowning glory came at the 2022 World Cup where he put in some miraculous performances as Lionel Messi and co at Argentina lifted the trophy, defeating France in a thrilling final.
Martinez, who now has 47 international caps for Argentina, has also won two Copa Americas and is now starring for Villa in the Champions League this season.
