Our mission is to nurture a great place to live, learn, work, grow and a great place to do business. All these strands support each other and in unison make Wokingham Borough our wonderful home.
In running my own business for over 45 years I have learned that business needs to become an integral part of its community to thrive. Without a thriving economy our community cannot be fully inclusive, and it requires a liberal society for capitalism to work for all. Our council is just one support in a structure that requires the equal support of business and community to stand strong. The collaborative momentum of Business, Government and Community working together cannot be halted.
An excellent example of this is our interaction with your council’s commercial partner Places Leisure. We team up to link our community’s sport and leisure to our community’s individual health & wellbeing via heavily subsidised targeted support.
EXERCISE REFERRAL supports adults with medical conditions to be more active.
BIG SISTER aims to empower girls 9-15 years to be active by reducing economic exclusion and providing a safe space to engage. It is proven that if girls engage in physical activity, then they will continue into later life.
CARERS LEISURE OFFER is supporting unpaid carers to stay fit and healthy combating the health inequalities they experience.
MOVE THROUGH MENOPAUSE provides the support of women through menopause by providing a safe space to understand the role of physical activity in managing symptoms
All of this and much more contributes to our Community Wealth Building and tries to make sure that no one misses out
Only last week I attended one of our leisure centres The Carnival Hub with our Liberal Democrat MP Clive Jones. You can read more about this visit, and the great work this business does by working with your council and your community, in today’s paper
I’d like to take this opportunity to personally thank the team at Wokingham Today for their support. This newspaper incapsulates a business being integral to bringing community and government together to win!
