READING FC WOMEN dropped points after losing a two-goal lead in a damaging defeat for their Women’s Super League survival hopes.
The Royals raced into a quick two-goal lead through a Justine Vanhaevermaet brace.
The Belgian international opened the scoring when Reading were awarded a penalty inside the opening minute of the match when Charlie Wellings was brought down in the box.
Vanhaevermaet coolly slotted past the goalkeeper to give the Royals the start they were craving.
Things got even better for the hosts in the 17th minute when Vanhaevermaet profited from some tenacious work from Sanne Troelsgaard who won possession before teeing up her teammate to apply the finish from close range.
After a comfortable opening half an hour, the mood changed when Everton grabbed a goal back before the break when Hanna Bennison was allowed room in the box to place the ball past Grace Moloney.
With a much ore nervous aura around the ground after seeing their lead cut in half, it was the Toffees who found the momentum in the second-half to push on.
After applying plenty of pressure, the Toffees got level when Diane Caldwell mistimed a slide tackle in the box which saw the referee point to the penalty spot.
Katja Snoeijs took responsibility and put the game on level terms by stroking the ball into the bottom right corner to beat Moloney.
With half an hour left to play, it always looked likely that the visitors would be the ones to find a decisive goal in the game to take the points.
And that’s excatly what they did in the 83rd minute by scoring the pick of the bunch.
It was an exceptional solo effort from Nicole Sorensen which proved to be the match winner as she cut in from the right and whipped an unstoppable strike into the top corner to complete the comeback and compound Reading’s misery.
Reading are one place off the bottom of the table and Leicester City now have a game in hand over the Royals.
The Royals’ WSL status is in serious threat with just four games to go. Next up, Kelly Chambers’ side face a tricky away test against title chasing Manchester City.
