A CHARITY golf day broke records this month.
Rotary Club of Reading Maiden Erlegh’s Annual Charity Golf Day, held at Sonning Golf Club, enjoyed a high turnout.
With 26 teams and more than 100 players taking part, the event raised a generous amount for borough charities.
Scott Trathen, Joint President of the Rotary Club of Reading Maiden Erlegh, said: “It was a superb way to raise money for our programme.
“Everyone enjoyed a great day and contributed generously to all the fundraising activities.
“We’re grateful for the support of so many local businesses, and especially Sonning Golf Club.”
The event enjoyed excellent golfing weather and an ‘impeccably maintained course’, with the day of spirited competition culminating in victory for The Guildford Four, captained by Ian Heighes.
And an evening dinner was compered by golfing comedian Aaron James, who also conducted a charity auction featuring items donated by borough golf clubs and businesses.
The auction and other fundraising activities raised more than £8,000 for Rotary-supported charities, including the Rotary’s Community Food Aid and children’s programmes, which supports borough food banks, churches, families, and various Wokingham children’s charities.
Since the pandemic Rotary Club of Reading Maiden Erlegh has donated more than £30,000.
They would like to thank Financial Planning Partners (FPP) for supporting the golfing event.
