WOKINGHAM United Charities’ grants will help borough organisations celebrate the festive season with those most in need.
Headway Thames Valley is one of eight charities to benefit this year.
The grant allows them to take two groups of clients out for Christmas lunch and provide hampers for their most vulnerable members.
General manager Jamie Higgins said: “It allows us to make sure that all our clients have a good Christmas.
“We have taken people out, and provided hampers in previous years, but this year has been a real struggle for us, and I was seriously wondering whether that would be possible this Christmas.
“Our core responsibility is to support people’s health and wellbeing after a brain injury, and in the current climate I was thinking that we really couldn’t justify spending money on festive celebrations.
“Then our fundraising manager Qudsia Rahim said that she had applied to WUC for their Christmas Cheer Grant.
“We now have enough money to take our clients out for proper Christmas lunch, and can provide quality hampers for all those who have less money, are more isolated, or have fewer family members to support them.
“None of this would have been possible without WUC.
“A massive thank you to them from us.”
Headway Thames Valley, not to be confused with Headway, is a Henley based charity that operates throughout Berkshire, including in Wokingham.
The group works with people of all ages who have experienced brain injury, helping them on their road to recovery through courses, clinical services, support groups, and therapy.
