A GROUP of Wokingham musicians will be performing their first ever concert this month.
Wokingham Philharmonic Orchestra’s inaugural event is called An Overture of Overtures, and features music from a range of composers, including Rossini, Mozart and Sullivan.
The ensemble is the newest amateur orchestra in Wokingham, its mission to enjoy exploring orchestral works in a friendly and supportive space, and to perform two or three formal concerts locally per year.
But the musicians are not only developing their repertoire of classical music, they are also growing an active WhatsApp group and enjoying friendly social events.
Launched in September last year by two music-loving friends and medics, Richard Bishop and James Weitz, the group brings together local players of grade 7 standard and above.
Richard conducts and James plays the cello during rehearsals that take place on Wednesday evenings at The Windmill School, Woosehill.
The event will take place in Wokingham, with Richard Bishop conducting, and Robin Scurlock as leader of the orchestra.
To hear the concert, people should make their way to All Saints Church, Wokingham, on Saturday, February 28.
The music begins at 7.30pm, and tickets cost £10, or free for under 16s.
