A GRANT from Tesco Wokingham makes it possible for enthusiastic young athletes to take part in sport.
The Finchampstead Road supermarket awarded £500 to Laurel Park Netball Club.
The gift will enable the group to buy much-needed equipment to help disadvantaged young people take part in the sport.
The club received their award after shoppers voted with blue tokens as part of Tesco’s Stronger Starts scheme.
Megan Walmsley, chair of Laurel Park Netball Club, said: “We welcome all players: from juniors, to back-to-netball players, to competitive league players.
“Our aim is for everyone to get a chance to play netball, whatever their standard.
“Training and playing across Reading, Bracknell, and Wokingham, the club has more than 200 members across our Junior and Senior squads.”
The Stronger Starts scheme, in partnership with the Groundwork charity, supports many Wokingham community projects and good causes, giving away thousands of pounds each year.
Louise Jedras, Community Champion at Tesco Wokingham, said: “Laurel Park Netball Club is built on a fantastic philosophy of inclusion.
“We are always delighted to support organisations like this, and we hope the equipment the funding will enable them to buy will bring many people a lot of happiness for many years to come.”
Wokingham shoppers can use the Stronger Starts scheme to support local groups by dropping the Tesco blue token they receive at the checkout into the relevant voting box as they leave the store.
