We’re delighted to say that your local installer InstaGroup recently featured in the Ideal Home magazine’s ‘The Ultimate Cavity Wall Insulation Guide’. Since then, we’ve been hearing a lot from local residents about the huge rise in their home energy bills. So we’re sharing some of our ‘ultimate advice’ on installing Cavity Wall insulation to help you save money and stay warmer at home.
Save up to 33% of your home’s heat
When Cavity Wall insulation is installed it goes to work straight away – it effectively stops as much as a third of a home’s warmth from being lost through the walls1. You’ll enjoy lower energy costs and cosier rooms, year after year.
Is it right for your home?
Cavity Wall insulation fills the gap or cavity between the two layers of brick that make up the outside walls of a property. If you’re not sure whether your home has cavity walls, the age of the property is a big clue: if your home was built after 1920, it probably has cavity walls.
Call in an expert
A professional home energy survey is essential, and will confirm if Cavity Wall insulation is right for your home. From the condition of the walls and brickwork, to the guttering and windows, a good surveyor will inspect your property inside and out to rule out any potential issues.
The surveyor will also drill a few small holes on the outside walls to look inside the wall cavity with a borescope. This checks it’s clear of rubble or old insulation material. (They seal up the holes afterwards).
Beware of a ‘hard sell’
Your well-loved home deserves the best solution, because in the wrong hands Cavity Wall insulation can cause a lot of problems. When it’s badly installed or unsuitable for the property, it can cause humidity, condensation, damp patches and even mould.
At InstaGroup, if we find Cavity Wall insulation isn’t right for your property we’ll always tell you: we never ‘hard sell’ to residents. We also pay great attention to ventilation and air circulation at every home energy survey, and will recommend that we add vents if needed.
Check for guarantees
Always make sure your installer is backed by the CIGA and NIA industry guarantees. It means their work meets the stringent standards for professional quality. Reassuringly, if you find your Cavity Wall insulation does ‘fail’ later down the line, CIGA guarantees to put things right up to 25 years later.
A quick and clean installation
It can take under two hours to install Cavity Wall insulation. A team of qualified technicians use a specialised machine to accurately blow the insulation material (such as microbeads, fibre or wool) into the wall cavity. It’s straightforward to install from the outside of your property, with minimum disruption to your home life.
