A GOALKEEPER once described as one of the best in the then First Division has taken to social media to praise a Wokingham institution.

Last Friday, Wokingham Music Club organised a gig featuring 1980s legends The Christians.

The sell-out show, at The Whitty Theatre in Luckley House School, was a smash hit with audiences including Neville Southall, the former Welsh number one and Everton legend.

He tweeted: “Thanks for a great night ”

Wokingham Music Club organiser Stan Hetherington was delighted with his new fan.

“We’re pleased that Neville enjoyed himself – it was a brilliant night of music from a fabulous band,” he said.

“It was The Christians’ first visit to Wokingham and we were pleased to have hosted them.

“We’re always looking for the very best acts to perform and it’s great that Neville recognised this and joined us.”

The club will this Friday welcome Never 42, a Level 42 tribute act, at the Emmbrook Sports and Social Club, while on Friday, October 4, Steely Dan tribute Simply Dan perform at The Whitty.

October’s gigs also include a visit from Richard Digance on his farewell tour and a show from alt-folk prog rock Irish band Tir na Nog.

“The programme for Wokingham Music Club is always eclectic, but always driven by the desire to put on brilliant nights,” Mr Hetherington added.

“We look forward to welcoming Neville again.”
