A logistics hub that replaced an iconic Reading business is on the market a year after works on the site were finished.
The former home of Autotrader, the automotive brand founded by Sir John Madejski, at Cutbush Industrial Estate in Lower Earley, was vacated nearly 10 years ago, prompting redevelopment plans.
The business was founded by Sir John in 1977 as Thames Valley Trader. He saw a similar business model following a trip to the United States.
From those humble beginnings, the business evolved from an entrepreneurial print media business into the UK’s largest digital automotive platform.
Initially, developers were hoping to replace the site with 76 apartments, however housing was shelved in favour of a logistics hub.
Wokingham Borough Council approved the project for the hub in March 2022.
Work on the site was completed in the summer of last year, but the site remained unoccupied.
The logistics hub is now being marketed by TLRE commercial real estate.
It lists ‘key benefits’ including its proximity to the M4, ancillary office and amenity space, and eight electric vehicle charging points in a 48-space car park.
The advert stated it is ‘ready to occupy with immediate effect’.
