A GROUP of residents who live along the A4 have called recognition of speed limit inconsistencies a “major advance.”
Wokingham Borough Council’s admission comes in a reply to a letter sent last month by Scarletts Lane Residents’ Association, chaired by Cllr Wayne Smith.
His letter outlined concerns about speeding and the condition of the carriageway on the A4 as it passes through Hare Hatch and Kiln Green. Several residents also spoke to Wokingham Today about the issues.
The reply from the borough council and seen by Wokingham Today said that discussions with Thames Valley Police to introduce a single, consistent speed limit are under way.
It also confirms that two stretches of the A4 — Tag Lane to The Berkshire Gardener and Blakes Lane to Scarletts Lane —have been provisionally included in the structural maintenance programme for 2022/23.
And it is expected that borough council contractors will begin footpath clearance works by the end of the month.
A spokesperson for the borough council said: “The Scarletts Lane Residents’ Association has received a response from the council.
“Early conversations are happening around speed limits and our resurfacing programme will be released over the coming weeks once finalised.”
Cllr Smith also represents Hurst ward as a Conservative member of the borough council.
