A 27-year-old man has been sentenced to 50 weeks imprisonment for shoplifting in Wokingham.
Charlie Pearce, of no fixed abode, was sentenced at Reading Magistrates’ Court on Monday, January 20.
He was charged with seven offences of shoplifting and pleaded guilty to five counts of theft from a shop at an earlier hearing after two charges were dropped.
Thames Valley Police says that Pearce targeted several stores in Wokingham and stole items worth hundreds of points with the offences taking place in December 2024.
He was sentenced to 50 weeks, 32 of which was a breach from a previous suspended sentence.
Investigating officer Sergeant Nathan Hollis said: “I am pleased that Pearce has been sentenced to time in jail.
“Often shoplifting is seen as a victimless crime, however it has a detrimental impact on businesses, and causes stress to those who work within shops.
“Pearce took from these shops without any thought of the impact it might have, and was sentenced to jail on his birthday.
“Thames Valley Police will continue to investigate those who see fit to repeatedly target businesses and make sure they are brought before the courts to face justice.”
