In a move that marks a major milestone for British basketball athletes, Joel Armotrading, a homegrown talent from Berkshire, has signed with the University of Nevada, Reno Wolf Pack team, one of the premier NCAA Division I men’s basketball programmes in the United States.
Joel, a towering 6’8″ centre with an athletic, high-impact style of play, has carved an impressive path from the school gyms of Burnham Grammar School to the elite courts of U.S. college basketball. His signing with Nevada Wolf Pack places him in the heart of the Mountain West Conference, widely recognised for its fierce competition and track record of producing professional-level players.
Having previously played in California, for Cal Poly and University California Riverside, as well as junior college powerhouse the College of Southern Idaho, Joel has built a strong resume. At each stop, he’s been known for his shot-blocking instincts and rebounding dominance. Coaches and scouts alike have described him as a “game-changing presence” with the potential to play professionally at the highest levels.
But beyond the stats and accolades, Joel’s journey is one of resilience, determination and focus.
Joel, 22, said. “ This is a big personal achievement and is a message to every young person in Berkshire who has a dream, especially in sports. I’m proof that if you stay committed and if you’re willing to work hard you can go anywhere.
Joel’s story is an inspiring one for aspiring athletes across the county as he honed his early skills at school, local basketball teams and practiced his skills at Slough parks and eventually his performance and stature caught the attention of scouts, leading him to the U.S. where he continued to level up his game season after season.
Now, as part of the Nevada Wolf Pack, Joel will be competing in front of thousands of fans, televised audiences, and under the watchful eyes of former NBA player, and Wolf Pach Head Coach, Steve Alford.
Berkshire has long been known for producing top talent in a variety of fields, but Joel Armotrading is now leading the way for basketball, showing young athletes that global opportunities are within reach.
The entire local community, from teachers and coaches to friends and supporters, will be watching with pride as he steps onto the court next season in the famed Wolf Pack Jersey.
