A LOCAL CHARITY supporting children with additional needs was presented with a cheque this week from a Reading business.
OpenText REading presented the Me2 Club with £1,500 to kick-start their support for the charity this financial year.
At the cheque presentation were all of the OpenText Reading staff.
Liz McDaniel, fundraising development officer at Me2 Club said: “Today the staff have met one of the parents of the children we support. Now they can see exactly what impact we make.”
The Me2 Club support children and young people in the Wokingham Borough with additional needs to access mainstream leisure activities, such as swimming, football, brownies and scouts.
The children are paired with a volunteer ‘buddy’ who supports them at the activity clubs they choose. The charity aims to tackle loneliness that children with additional needs may experience if they are unable to join activity groups.
Saiva Bentley-Holder, vice-chair of corporate social responsibility on the Reading site committee said: “We’re excited for the year ahead. We’re organising a children’s Christmas party where some of our volunteers will help out. We’re also looking to organise a charity skydive, and pull together a team for the Reading half marathon.
“It’s really exciting for us.”
This year, OpenText are supporting two charities, Me2 Club and Sadaka, a local homelessness charity.
“We wanted to support local charities so that we can make the most difference to people’s lives in the area, explained Sue Reynolds, chair of corporate social responsibility on the Reading site committee.
The two charities will be supported by the business until June 2020.
