A WOKINGHAM arts appreciation group will be able to hear some of the stories behind elegant necklaces and tiaras designed for BBC television series Downton Abbey.
Members of the Arts Society Wokingham will be able to enjoy a visit from Andrew Prince at their next meeting.
He’s the man who designed and created many of the jewellery pieces worn by the ladies of the Crawley family in the Downton Abbey series.
Fascinated by the changing styles of the period 1890 to 1929, Andrew will explain that while jewellery and fashion are often seen as two distinct fields of design, he believes this is very far from the case.
In his illustrated talk, From Downton to Gatsby: Jewellery and Fashion, he will explore an extraordinary era when great couturiers collaborated with the finest of craftsmen to produce creations of outstanding quality and glittering opulence.
He will also be bringing along a selection of some of his creations for the audience to appreciate.
The Arts Society Wokingham is a vibrant society offering a full programme of lectures, study days and visits.
Guests are always welcome to its events, which are also live-streamed to the society’s YouTube channel.
Andrew Prince’s talk can be heard at King’s Academy, Binfield, on Monday, March 16.
Tea and coffee will be served from 7.15pm, with the talk beginning at at 7.45pm.
