MORE than 2,700 people in Wokingham Borough are now receiving the Government’s new Universal Credit payments.
Nationwide, more than a third of Universal Credit claimants are in work.
The Government says that the scheme replaces six previous benefits with a single monthly payment.
And all Job Centres across the country are now able to offer the scheme.
Minister for Welfare Delivery Will Quince said: “Universal Credit is a force for good, delivering personalised support right across the South East and helping people find work”.
Across the South East, 239,663 people are now receiving Universal Credit: 2,717 are from Wokingham, while 2,694 people receive it in Windsor and Maidenhead, 6,504 in Reading and 2,579 in Bracknell Forest.
