The Liberal Democrat’s autumn conference came to a close in Bournemouth last week, during which Wokingham MP Clive Jones met with charities, voted in new policies, and raised awareness of issues affecting the local area.
He met 14 different charities and businesses, including Young Lives vs Cancer, Alzheimer’s Research UK, the Mental Health Foundation, the Royal College of Radiologists and the British Psychological Association.
Each meeting allowed Clive to understand how he can best support each charity and business, including raising questions on their behalf in Parliament.
National party conferences also provide opportunities for members to vote in party policies and to give speeches on key issues.
He raised the importance of the hospitality sector in Wokingham, and the support the government desperately needs to provide them.
He went on to name many of the “brilliant” local businesses in the constituency, including the Kimel Cafe, Grilko and Club India.
Clive also spoke about the importance of rebuilding the UK-EU relationship, the need for further support for upskilling and reforming the NHS, during which he raised the overwhelming needs of the Royal Berkshire Hospital’s A&E department.
Jones, said: “Conference is a great opportunity to meet with charities and businesses, and to speak on issues affecting the local community of Wokingham – this year was no different.
“From speaking with world-leading cancer charities to groups championing better mental health, this has been an invaluable opportunity to understand how I can continue to work with organisations and bring their concerns directly to the government.
“I was proud to represent our constituency at this year’s conference and to raise awareness of local issues, including the A&E department of the Royal Berkshire Hospital or naming the great local businesses that are the backbone of Wokingham.”
