Wokingham and Emmbrook Football Club is set to serve up a treat thanks to the award of a new kitchen as part of a nationwide initiative to boost grassroots football.
Working alongside the Football Association, Howdens wants to transform hundreds of lower league and grassroots clubhouses through its Game Changer Programme.
It will be providing new kitchen facilities to the club with the hope that will become the heart of the local community.
A spokesperson from Howdens said: “Like the kitchen is at the heart of the home, we hope these new kitchens will become a lifeline for many underfunded football teams, allowing parents, players, and volunteers to host events, food and refreshments that provide valuable funding to keep clubs afloat.”
Howdens’ goal is to upgrade 450 clubhouse kitchens across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, to keep the spirit of football alive.
Howdens was established in 1995 to provide trade customers with kitchens, joinery, and hardware products. Starting with 14 depots, there are now more than 800 locations supporting the trade to achieve exceptional results for their customers.
Mark Ashwell, president of Wokingham & Emmbrook Football Club, said: “I am thrilled we have been chosen by Howdens to receive a new kitchen.
“We pride ourselves on the welcome we give to everyone who comes to Lowther Road, and a new kitchen will only enhance what we do.”
Andrew Livingston, chief executive officer of Howdens, said: “The off-pitch facilities are vital, because clubhouses are the hub of the community.
“They’re the place for teas and coffees for the taxi of mum and dad, where the frozen wet feet of the army of volunteers dry off, and where the post-match discussion starts.”
The package for Wokingham & Emmbrook includes kitchens, worktops and appliances.
